BILL DOERRFELD

composer/pianist

I’m Bill Doerrfeld, composer and pianist of works in the jazz and classical idioms. Throughout 2008 and 2009 I’ve been developing a broad repertoire of solo piano compositions in what I call the “Jassical” idiom. What I’m striving for is something far more involved than just “serious” treatment of jazz or trying to “swing” a formal classical style. What I’m after is something with the passion or impressions of Johannes Brahms or Claude Debussy but which genuinely morphs into the gentle introspection of Bill Evans or Keith Jarret. I’m also developing a densely syncopated Latin style utilizing all ten fingers of the pianist—covering bass, rhythm, harmony, melody and counter melody in a challenging manner yet with the aim of creating an experience void of any sense of longing for additional players to make the “groove” sound convincing.

During this time—along with having composed nearly fifty pieces, with new ones on the way on a regular basis—I’ve been continuously practicing in an effort to achieve the sound and technical command necessary to perform and record these works at the highest quality possible. While I am anxious to share my creations with others—and very much appreciate those who have already expressed interest in my work—I am highly motivated to ensure the unveiling of these works presents my best effort.

In 2010 I intend to bring the notation of all of these compositions to the computer, then master the art of digitally recording them on my Yamaha C7 Conservatory Concert Grand Piano. After this, I hope to have the quality first release album I’ve been dreaming about for the last few years.

Once again I thank those who have expressed interest in my work. If not already, please join my email list to receive word on when the first album is released.

Thank you.
