In A Dream

In A Dream was composed March 28th through 30th 2010 in Mazama, WA. Yes the title is inspired by a dream had by the composer at the time. A forceful introduction melts into an lighter upward arpeggiated line and we suddenly find ourselves in the land of a pleasing rhapsodic jazz ballad. While gently flowing, we do hit some meter displacements to keep things interesting. As expected, we are floating around with the “In A Dream” theme throughout this piece. The A section repeats then we have a bridge which lands us back to the A section transposed up a step and after this section’s restatement an additional upward transposition occurs. After this section restatement we this time bring it down a notch and dwell a short but on epilogue-like material. Not content with ending here we reassert the forceful introduction to a strong close.

Only in a dream.
